Issue: The location of Camp Maumee is in an area of the Bloomington 100K quadrangle that has very little to no data on the different formations within the Borden Group. Throughout Brown and Jackson Counties there are very few locations that allow us to determine contacts between the Spickert Knob and Edwardsville Formations. Also, the Camp Maumee staff granted us permission to map the camp area, and in return, we would provide a bedrock map of the area that they would use for instruction of scouts earning their Geology Merit Badge. They also agreed to potentially allow us to use the camp location as a site for a survey drill hole. This project will allow us to attain more geological information for our StateMap projects while at the same time fulfilling our service to the public.
Objective: 1. Produce a 1:24,000 bedrock map 2. Acquire additional data points that would be used for this project as well as for StateMap Bloomington quad project. 3. Identify a potential drill site location for StateMap
Approach: Perform a preliminary survey of Camp Maumee (already completed). After the preliminary survey, look for and study previously published literature and data of this location and surrounding area, then identify outcrop transects. While conducting transects, a drill site location would be identified for the StateMap 2025 Bloomington project. HVSR data will be collected as needed to refine the bedrock surface. The date of this project is a full year, though the active field portion will be about 2 weeks and the surface creation another 2-3 weeks. We intend to conduct fieldwork around the 1st of December when the leaves have fallen.
Products: 1. 1:24,000 map for Camp Maumee. 2. Small pamphlet that describes the formations identified within the Camp Maumee area. 3. Pamphlet that describes depositional environment/paleo-geography of the Camp Maumee area. 4. Additional data points that will be used for StateMap mapping products.
Benefits: 1. This will benefit the Camp Maumeeā€™s objective to teach scouts about geology of the local area 2. This will give more exposure of IGWS to the public showcasing some of what we have to offer to our communities. 3. Additionally, this would allow IGWS access to an area where little to no data exists
