The main office and laboratory building of the Indiana Geological and Water Survey was renovated by Indiana University from 2019 to 2021, providing the state with 21st-century geological research facilities. The Survey occupies several buildings on and off the IU Bloomington campus that are open for research and tours. As a public trust research institution, the IGWS maintains the state repository for paper and digital geological records, and rock, mineral, soil, and other geologic samples that contribute to research, teaching, and outreach efforts.
