Well Event

Each well in the PDMS has been divided into one or more informal chronological Well Events that represent a well's history. Each Event corresponds to a unique Well Events Table that contains key information about the particular Event. Most of this information is presented in the Event Header on the well's Well Record Page.

A number of factors help determine whether parts of a well's activities constitute a distinct Event:

  1. Generally, a workover operation, well deepening, conversion, or reentering an abandoned well defines an Event.

  2. Before about 1993, Division of Oil and Gas (DOG) issued a new Permit Number for a well every time it was reworked. In the PDMS, a separate well Event needs to be created for each permit number issued, even if no physical activity took place.

  3. Any time new Event Status is necessary, a new Event is created.

  4. Sometimes several well changes can be entered as a single Event. For example, if we receive notification of a change of operator to operator ABC, and subsequently receive a workover completion report listing ABC as the operator, these will probably be entered as a single Event unless some other factor precludes that.

Each Well Event is represented on the Well Record Page by a corresponding Event Header.

Well Events are linked to a number of Well Event Subtables that contain most of the well data associated with each individual Event listed on the Well Record Page.

The data fields shown in the upper part of the Event Header contain key information about that particular Event. These data for are stored in the Well Events Table which can be downloaded online (see Downloading PDMS Tables).
