Former Field Name

  1. A Former Field Name is a name no longer used to describe the extent of production or storage in an earlier-recognized Petroleum Field, commonly because the wells grouped within the field have been consolidated into a larger field with a different Field Name. The Consolidated Field Name is the name of the currently recognized petroleum field where one or more wells are located.
  2. Former Field Name has nothing to do with whether a field is active or abandoned; it merely indicates that a field with that name once existed and that name is no longer used to refer to the group of wells represented.
  3. Former Field Name is used in the PDMS to preserve the historical record of the field, which might prove useful to someone reconstructing the production history of a field, perhaps to evaluate opportunities for improving production. Certain production records, for example, may be available for an older petroleum field that was once known by its Former Field Name.
  4. The data for Former Field Name are stored in the Location Table of the PDMS, mostly because it is conveniently recorded near the Petroleum Field Name data. Former Field Name is not shown on the Well Header, however, because that information is not generally of interest to those working with well data on the Well Record Page.
