Footage and Direction are used to describe a well's location within a Section or other Land Unit.
Distance (in feet) from the north line or the south line of the smallest Quarter given in the location description to the well spotted. If a Quarter is not given, the section lines are used. For other Land Units, the north line or the south line of the unit may be used if that line is oriented east-west; otherwise, the northwest line (NWL), northeast line (NEL), southwest line (SWL), or southeast line (SEL) may be used.
