Quarters

Quarters Subdivisions of a standard Section (approximately 1 mile by 1 mile) in the Congressional Township and Range Survey System.

Quarters are used to describe locations of wells within a Section. Typically, three or fewer quarters are used to describe a location.

The 3 quarters shown on the Well Header are defined, from left to right, as:

Quarter 1

Ten-acre quarter/quarter/quarter of Section in the Congressional Township and Range Survey System. If less than 3 Quarters are given for a well location, Quarter 1 is not used. Sections are the only Land Units which are quartered.

Quarter 2

Forty-acre quarter/quarter of a Section in the Congressional Township and Range Survey System. If only one Quarter is given for a well’s location, Quarter 1 and Quarter 2 are not used. Sections are the only Land Units which are quartered.

Quarter 3

One hundred sixty-acre quarter Section in the Congressional Township and Range Survey System. Sections are the only Land Units which are quartered.

Example

A well is located in the southwest quarter of the northeast quarter of the southeast quarter if its location description is 330 SL, 330 WL, SW/NE/SE.
