The reported date that a well is made ready for production, operation, or is abandoned.
Because a Well Event, as defined in the PDMS, may also include events related to permitting or other non-operational activities, the Completion Date may also be used to indicate when an Event Status was changed, thereby generating a subsequent Well Event. In such cases, the Completion Date of the former Well Event may be the same as the Permit Date for the second Well Event.
The normal date format used in the PDMS is mm/dd/yyyy.
Wells that were reported as completed at an unspecified date in a certain year are assigned a date "01/01/yyyy", and a comment is added in the Event Comments field of the Event Header stating that the exact month and date of completion are unknown.
Similarly, if the month is known, but not the day, "mm/01/yyyy" is entered and an Event Comment is added.
If the year of completion is uncertain, the date "01/01/yyyy" is used, and an Event Comment is added stating that the completion year is uncertain.
If the year of completion is unknown, no date is entered as the Completion Date, however, any limiting knowledge is added in the Event Comments data field (for example, "well drilled before 1928"). Caution: Such Event Comments have not yet been systematically entered for all wells in the PDMS.
