Currentness (erroneously labeled as "Completion Status")

Currentness indicates whether the Well Event is currently active or in use. If the Well Event status is presently producing, or operating in a service capacity, the Event is considered current and the Geological Unit being used for this activity is termed a Pay Zone. If a well is only temporarily abandoned from an otherwise "current" status, it remains classified a current until a more definite condition is established.

The purpose of the Currentness value in the Well Events Table, is to facilitate statistical reporting of each Well Event. In the Fields and Production Module of the PDMS, the number of current and former Pay Zones is tallied for each Completion Formation in the field's history. This information is reported in the Pay Zone Summary.

The Currentness value is manually assigned to each Well Event. Currentness is not shown on the online manifestation of the PDMS; however, a value for Currentness is included when the Well Event table is downloaded. Warning! Unfortunately, the Currentness data field was inadvertently labeled "Completion Status;" and that is the name used as a column header in the downloaded Event Table. Using the name "Completion Status" is confusing because the Event Table already has a data field called "Status." Due to structural ramifications in the PDMS, it will be some while until the correct name, Currentness, can be correctly shown in the PDMS.

Currentness Values

Three values are used for Currentness:

Current The Well Event represents a completion interval that is currently being used for production or some other purpose.
Former The Well Event represents a completion interval that was formerly used for production or some other purpose, but the interval is no longer used for that purpose.
N/A (Not Applicable) The Well Event is not related to actual production, water injection, or gas storage. This would be things such as dry holes, stratigraphic/structure tests, permitted wells, operator changes, permit revocations, and changes of location.
