Elevation Method is a data field in the Field Check Subtable.
The method used to verify the location's elevation. The following methods are used:
● | Altimeter |
elevation determined by digital Surveyor's altimeter from a known reference elevation on a topographic map or from a known elevation at an existing well |
● | Hand Level |
elevation determined by hand level from a known elevation on a topographic map or at another existing well |
● | None |
determining the elevation was not possible, thus no method was used |
● | Paulin |
elevation determined by a Paulin Surveyor's altimeter from a known reference elevation on a topographic map or from a known elevation at an existing well |
● | Topo Map |
indicates one of two possibilities based on past practices of the IGS: |
● | Staked |
the surveyor's stake was located in the field and appears to be in its intended original position. A knocked over stake does not qualify. |
● | Not Staked |
no sign of the well, the stake, or of drilling was observed |
● | Location |
a pad has been graded for the drilling rig, but the location stake is not planted on the site |
● | Topo Map |
indicates one of two possibilities based on past practices of the IGS: |
If the well site was actually visited, Topo Map means that the elevation visually appeared correct when compared to a topographic map (for example, in an area of flat topography), but no instruments were used confirm the elevation.
If the well location was reviewed in the office, but not visited, the location is consistent with the elevation indicated by a topographic map. In such cases, the value for Field Check Status in the main Well Header is entered as "Reviewed."
