Issue: Since 1975, the IGWS has collected coal stratigraphy data in accordance with the US Geological Survey National Coal Resources Data Systems. This cooperative project with the USGS generates, updates, and maintains coal resource information, including coal location, thickness, depth, stratigraphic position, and surrounding rock data.
Objective: The purpose of this project is to provide easy availability of point-source coal resource information, including coal location, thickness, depth, and other parameters.
Approach: This project collects new data and adds them to the existing NCRDS - Coal Quality database.
Products: Eventually products of this project will be converted into the online application.
Benefits: These data re important for regional coal resource and characterization evaluations and can be used by the public, industry, and state and federal governments.
