Field Check Status

Field Check Status indicates whether the well location has been, or needs to be, checked in the field, and to a certain extent, how reliably it was checked. The values and definitions for the Field Check Status data field are given in the following table:

Not Checked Well location and elevation needs to be checked in the field.
Checked Well location and elevation have been checked in the field.
Reviewed Well location and elevation have been reviewed using available resources, appear correct, but were not verified in the field.

Recheck

Well was previously checked, information received by the IGS suggests the well should rechecked in the field to verify some aspect of the well.

Checked or Reviewed

Well location that has either been "field checked" and its location verified in the field; or has been reviewed using available resources, but was not verified in the field. These two distinct Field Check Status values have not yet been separated out in the PDMS for wells drilled prior to 2001, but this will ultimately be done.
Uncertain Well for which a location description is not sufficient to determine an approximately correct position (see also Reviewed, Approximate, and General). The well symbol is modified with the "uncertain location" modifier.
Approximate

Well location and elevation have been reviewed using available sources, and its location is thought to be approximately correct (within about 100 feet of the well) and its reported elevation is consistent with USGS topographic maps or other reliable sources. The well symbol is modified with the "uncertain location" modifier.

General A well for which a specific location was not reported. Instead, a general area was given. For example, a well may have reported a location in the "NW quarter" of a section, but nothing more accurate is known. In this event, a UTM-coordinate location in the middle of the reported area is assigned to spot the well on maps, and the well symbol is modified with the "uncertain location" modifier. If multiple wells are reported in the same general area, coordinate locations are assigned so that their well symbols do not overlap.
Hold No apparent indication that the well has been drilled and the permit period for the well has expired.
Dropped No evidence indicates that the well has been drilled and the permit has expired for more than a year. Also, includes wells where there is positive information that the well will not be drilled reasonably soon.
