Description:
Abstract:
TEMPERATURE_LOGS_PDMS_IGS_IN is an ESRI ArcMap point shapefile that shows the locations of all wells in the Petroleum Database Management System of the Indiana Geological Survey for which Temperature Logs Are present. Attributes of the shapefile include a unique identification numbers for each well, bottom-hole temperatures, maximum borehole temperatures, depths associated with bottom-hole temperatures, and the surface elevation in feet of the borehole.
Purpose:
TEMPERATURE_LOGS_PDMS_IGS_IN was created to provide an index of wells that have associated temperature logs in the archives of the Indiana Geological Survey. After obtaining the unique identification number of a well of interest, the user can then easily obtain more detailed information about the well by visiting the online Petroleum Database Management System of the Indiana Geological Survey. This shapefile was produced by the Indiana Geological Survey as part of an effort to populate the National Geothermal Data System (NGDS) with data in a digital form. This material is based upon work supported by the Department of Energy and the Arizona Geological Survey under Prime Award Number DE-EE0002850 and Sub-Award Number IN-EE002850.
Supplemental_Information:
The Petroleum Database Management System of the Indiana Geological Survey can be accessed online at <https://igs.indiana.edu/pdms/>. Original well logs can be viewed and examined by visitors to the Indiana Geological Survey, Bloomington, Indiana.

Data_Quality_Information:
Attribute_Accuracy:
Attribute_Accuracy_Report:
Bottom-hole temperatures were determined by examining the header information on paper geophysical logs from wells with temperature logs present in the archives of the Indiana Geological Survey. The paper geophysical logs were recorded by various geophysical logging companies. Temperature values have been rounded to the nearest degree Fahrenheit and converted to the nearest degree Celsius. Bottom-hole temperatures were recorded by drillers. Athough human error can be introduced when drillers recorded bottom-hole temperatures, an attempt has been made by personnel of the Indiana Geological Survey to exclude spurious data such as chart-derived temperatures.
Logical_Consistency_Report: No tests were made.
Completeness_Report:
The shapefile includes all records in the Petroleum Database Managment System of the Indiana Geological Survey for which temperature logs are available.

Locations, bottom-hole temperatures, and other attributes of wells that are contained in the Petroleum Database Management System of the Indiana Geological Survey.

Process_Step:
Process_Description:
Personnel of the Indiana Geological Survey (IGS) visually examined the header information on all geophysical logs for wells containing temperature logs in the Petroleum Database Management System of the IGS. Values of bottom-hole temperatures and maximum recorded temperatures were entered into a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet as degrees Fahrenheit and converted to degrees Celsius. Locational coordinates were in Universal Transverse Mercator, Zone 16, NAD83.
