This georeferenced image (ELEVATION_TDS_3K_PPM_IGS_IN.TIF) was derived from a published paper map: Mitchell, W.M., and Rupp, J.A., 1994, Map of southwest Indiana showing the elevation of the first occurrence of the 3,000 PPM total dissolved solids (TDS) boundary: Indiana Geological Survey Open-File Report 94-2, Plate 01. The following notes appear on the published map, "Digital cartography by Zinta Smidchens and Daniel O. Barry. Contours drafted by Jim Cazee. Contoured by W.M. Mitchell."
Description:
Abstract:
ELEVATION_TDS_3K_PPM_IGS_IN.TIF is a georeferenced TIF image of a published paper map that shows the elevation of the first occurrence of the 3,000 ppm total dissolved solids (TDS) boundary in Indiana. The contour interval is 100 feet. The datum is sea level. Also shown are TDS elevation points, points where 3,000 ppm boundary occurs at an elevation above available data, and points where TDS reversal is below mapped value. The original map was produced by personnel of the Indiana Geological Survey in cooperation with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Division of Oil and Gas.
Purpose:
ELEVATION_TDS_3K_PPM_IGS_IN.TIF was created to provide a georeferenced TIF image, suitable for use in a GIS, of a preexisting published paper map (Mitchell, W.M., and Rupp, J.A., 1994, Map of southwest Indiana showing the elevation of the first occurrence of the 3,000 PPM total dissolved solids (TDS) boundary.) The georeferenced image was produced by the Indiana Geological Survey as part of an effort to populate the National Geothermal Data System (NGDS) with legacy data in a digital form. This material is based upon work supported by the Department of Energy and the Arizona Geological Survey under Prime Award Number DE-EE0002850 and Sub-Award Number IN-EE002850.

Personnel of the Indiana Geological Survey opened the file named "OFS94-02 Plate 01.TIF" in ESRI ArcMap 9.3. Using the "Georeferencing Tool," the map was georeferenced using a shapefile named "LANDSURVEY_COUNTY_POLY.SHP" as the base to produce a georeferenced TIF named "OFS94-02Plate01_rectified.TIF." The map was transformed using a 1st Order Polynomial with 23 reference points. Subsequently, OFS94-02Plate01_rectified.TIF was renamed as "ELEVATION_TDS_3K_PPM_IGS_IN.TIF."
